Born on the tailwinds of Hurricane Hazel, Lori B immigrated to the great state of San Francisco in the early 1990s after living, for many years, in New York City.

Educated at New York University and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill (undergraduate), her studies included literature, fine arts, and primate behavior. After a considerable hiatus during which Lori drove a tractor trailer and worked in the film business in LA and NYC, she returned to school for a graduate social work degree at Columbia University. Concurrently, she completed a three year certification in the Rubenfeld Synergy Method, an elegant mind-body therapeutic integration. Lori has a counseling practice in San Francisco that synthesizes her diverse therapeutic, artistic and coaching cultivations.

Lori B wrote songs secretly as a young teen then abandoned the music when she went to college. Exposure to an amazing movement form, called Contact Improvisation, created a profound emotional and physical homecoming and  she immersed herself in its study and practice. She performed and taught in groups of people with and without physical disabilities around the world and eventually certified as a Kripalu yoga instructor.

Out of the movement, the music mysteriously returned and Lori B began writing and singing again. Her intimate solo public performances have moved and delighted audiences around the country. Her two album-length CDs, Hurricane Child and Shadows of Love, are eccentric, contemporary, bred-in-the-bone folk. They are spare and poetic, collections of stories about what it means to be human.
